• [Jan 30, 2015] Dr. Stephan Scheuren has received the 2015 dissertation award by the Gesellschaft für Informatik in der Landwirtschaft (GIL) for his PhD dissertation Prozessoptimierte Planung für kooperative mobile Roboter [online version]. The award was presented at the GIL Jahrestagung 2015 on Feb 23th. [Press release, UOS]
• [Dec 17, 2014] Thomas Schüler has finished his PhD. His thesis Abstrakte virtuelle Illusionen für die Schlaganfalltherapie is [online].

• [Oct 11, 2014] The joint team of the KBS group and Hochschule Osnabrück (Arno Ruckelshausen) got third at the SICK robot day 2014.

• [Aug 20, 2014] I was appointed EurAi Fellow (formerly called ECCAI Fellow) as of 2014, awarded at the ECAI 2014 conference in Prague.
• [Jul 8, 2014] Stephan Scheuren has finished his PhD. His thesis Prozessoptimierte Planung für kooperative mobile Roboter is [online].
• [Apr 8, 2014] Kai Lingemann has finished his PhD. His thesis Lokalisierung und Kartenbau mit mobilen Robotern is [online].
• [Feb21, 2014] Three persons related to the KBS group have been awarded Studienpreise (study prizes) by Osnabrück University in 2014:
  • Dr. Stefan Stiene, deputy head of the DFKI branch Osnabrück, received the VVO Förderpreis for outstanding achievements in promoting the science region Osnabrück (together with Dr. Tobias Thelen of the Fraunhofer Arbeitsgruppe Osnabrück);
  • Dr. Thomas Wieman received the Intevation-Preis 2014 for outstanding achievements in developing and publishing public domain software (in this case, the LVR Toolkit);
  • Sven Schalk recieved one of the MLP Förderpreise for his Masters Thesis "Entwicklung eines Positionierungssystems für mobile Roboter".

• [Nov 28, 2013] The paper An Evaluation of Open Source Surface Reconstruction Software for Robotic Applications (T. Wiemann, H. Annuth, K. Lingemann, J. Hertzberg) was nominated as a finalist for the Best Paper Award at ICAR 2013, Nov 25-29, 2013, Montevideo, Uruguay.

• [Jul 11, 2013] The paper 3D Mapping with Time-of-Flight Cameras (S. May, D. Droeschel, D. Holz, S. Fuchs, E. Malis, A. Nüchter, J. Hertzberg; J. Field Robotics 26(11-12):934-965, 2009) is among "the most cited papers at the Journal of Field Robotics since 2009", see JFR page
• [Apr 23, 2013] Thomas Wiemann has finished his PhD. His thesis Automatische Generierung dreidimensionaler Polygonkarten für mobile Roboter is [online].
• [Oct 15, 2012] Dr. Ronny Hartanto has received the Dissertation Award by the Fachbereichstag Informatik (FBTI) for his Doctoral Dissertation "Fusing DL Reasoning with HTN Planning as a Deliberative Layer in Mobile Robotics" done under my supervision at the UOS while working at the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg. • [Oct 6, 2012] The team Ball Collector 3000 of students and members of the Knowledge-Based Systems Group and Arno Ruckelshausen's group at the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück got a special price at the SICK Robot Day competition. [UOS Press Release.]
• [Apr 20, 2012] Our new Robotics textbook is now visible on the publisher's Web pages, see Springer Link. But beware, it's in German!
• [Dec 1, 2011] The EU FP7 joint project RACE (Robustness by Autonomous Competence Enhancement) has started, running for 3 years. We are project partners, with two researcher positions.
• [Sep 29, 2011] The DFKI RIC Osnabrück Branch was formally opened on Sep 29.
• [Jul 1, 2011]The UOS branch (Außenstelle Universität Osnabrück) of DFKI Robotics Innovation Center, Bremen, has been approved by the Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur MWK [Press release, DFKI]
• [Apr 3, 2011]The Osna-Be! team has won the Simulation Mixed Reality competition at Robcup German Open in Magdeburg!
• [Sep 29, 2010]Note the new category Job Offers on this Web site! Looks like there will be quite a number of opportunities in Osnabrück in the area of AI/Knowledge-Based Systems/Robotics from now on for quite some time!
• [May 10, 2010] The Osna-Be! team has scored third in the Simulation Mixed Reality competition at Robcup German Open in Kiel!
• [Jan 28, 2010] From March 2010 on, I am a Vertrauensdozent (personal tutor) of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes (German National Academic Foundation) at the University of Osnabrück.
• [Sep 22, 2009] Since September 2009, I am a co-editor of KI – Künstliche Intelligenz (German Journal on Artificial Intelligence). From 2010 on, this journal is published by Springer Verlag [KI's Editorial Manager page].
• [Jul 5, 2009] The Osna-Be! Mixed Reality team has finished second place at the Finals of RoboCup 2009 in Graz! [RoboCup Mixed Reality results page]
• [Apr 24, 2009] The Osna-Be! team has scored second in the Simulation Mixed Reality demo competition at Robcup German Open in Hannover! [German Open results page]

• [Feb 27, 2008] The new Masterstudiengang Informatik has been accredited.
• [Oct 26, 2007] We scored second in the Indoor competition @ the RobotDay 2007 of SICK AG in Waldkirch.
